My Gaming for the Week of August 4 to August 10, 2025

So last week I kept being sick and miserable and didn't really play much of any games to talk about. I made progress on my building block set finishing another section of it and starting up the next part. I also organized a few more books. Overall I didn't do much though since I kept needing to just take medicine and rest.
This week I started up Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo on the Switch. I have the game via Gamefly so I figured it would be fine to give the games I've been working on a small break and play something short and fun. I like that there are options to control how difficult the game is and make it easier or harder at any time really. I decided to try to beat it on the default settings though since it isn't a hard game per say if you are patient when fighting the enemies and making jumps. The main hard part I have is the jumps so I did have to put on it to not give me fall damage so I could get past some areas.
I like that when the game first starts up it looks like you are getting ready to play a GameBoy Advanced game system. There are also some fun visual options to make it look more like old GameBoy and GBA games. The in-game sound is definitely a call back to those games as well. Though there were some GBA games that had voice acting. I don't mind that the creators of the game went with the fun sounds instead.
After the prologue (that's what I'm calling it) and leaving the first visit to the safe house I quickly found the first I guess optional character to unlock things. I forget their name already but they are a member of the Pipistrello family and offer contracts to give upgrades. I noticed pretty quickly there are a lot of optional buildings to solve little puzzles in that give small rewards that will add up to give more health or badge points once enough are collected. I spent a fair amount of time in the first section of areas figuring out what I could and couldn't do so far with my current abilities. The game does mention fairly early on that there are different move options that can be unlocked to swap out back at the safe house as far as what you can do with the yoyo.
I eventually found someone that was selling a special move and if you keep refusing they will mark the price down to 100 which is way better than 999. I was just telling them no because I actually didn't care about it for a moment since I was just trying to move on to the next screen to see if I could find a safe house entrance to get a new contract to pursue. Anyways I got that move and found another optional character who can upgrade current badges and create ones from blueprints. I didn't find any blueprints but did upgrade my starting badge before wandering on.
So the area I'm trying to get to that lead to all this wandering is blocked because of the police inspections or something like that and the sewer is blocked because I need an ID. I finally made it to where I can get the ID and after some confusion I figured out what I was supposed to do to get the ID made. I also decided to do the optional battle and grab the key to let out a criminal who taught me another special move. While in this area I also noticed occasionally you can ask the auntie for her advice on what to do in a room when there is something special going on. In this place it was the option to sneak past the enemies which I did sometimes and in other spots just beat them up to avoid taking damage. Anyway with the ID in hand I made my way back to the sewer and finally was able to reach the first area I wanted to go to.
Right after you leave the safe house you have two options on where to go for to start taking out the bosses. I chose to go with the one that seemed closer until I found out I had to do all that running around to actually get there. I also noticed as I was playing that this game is clearly using a hilarious joking take on the mafia and I have had many laughs at some of the nonsense so far. I thought I should mention that I am enjoying the game since I kind of sound like I'm complaining about the game making me waste my time but it's still fun even when it's wasting my time. The gameplay kind of reminds me of when I was playing Nobody Saves the World. I would set a goal but end up doing like 5 other things before getting back on track which sounds bad but it's so fun I don't notice until I look at the clock and I've been playing for well over 2 hours in that gaming session.
Inside the first place which is some kind of mall of sorts there are tons of puzzles to solve that are rather easy to do and a new move to learn to solve them too. I went about solving the puzzles and obtaining 4 keys to move on to the next section which has more to do that references some things I already did earlier such as a jumping mini game I had found that rewarded me with prizes before I went into the mall. Figuring out the optional puzzles too was a fun challenge. It took quite a lot of time to figure them all out and progress so I actually saved after flipping the switch to unlock the next part of the inner area that is accessed after finding all the keys.

I've decided I only will mention any of the free games I actually care about sooo Amazon Prime Gaming had a code for Civilization III through GOG that I grabbed. Not sure when I'll get to Civ3 but I do want to own the Civ series especially if I can do so for free.  Oh and quick side note if I ever make an abbreviation and you wonder just what am I talking about feel free to comment and ask.
