Monday I had to pick a new game to play. I decided to play the visual novel Fatal Twelve which starts out very surprising. The game has you play as Rinka and make choices that will determine your ending of course. It doesn't seem to have any focus around dating at all unlike most visual novels I'm familiar with so it has my interest. The story instead is around making the correct choices to get the true ending instead of ending up dying by some means such as the fire that takes place in the prologue to set up the story. For whatever reason the first death isn't permanent and instead of dying Rinka is given a do over of sorts with 12 weeks to start again. That is covered all in the beginning half hour of the game so it's not really a spoiler and is more just what the game's story is about. From what I can tell this is a relatively short visual novel also so I'm glad I rented it through Gamefly instead of buying it since I have a feeling that I'll finish it in no time at all. The game pacing is rather quick for a visual novel compared to ones I've played before that take forever to get started with being around the halfway point after just 4 hours when it normally takes reaching that for one route in another game take Winter's Wish Spirits of Edo for example around 6 to 8 hours depending on if I've read any of the prologue in advance. Anyways the storyline turns sad quickly. It also does something unique every so often it changes perspective to another character and shares their thoughts, actions and conversations instead of the main character that the in game choices are made for. I'm just 3 choices from the first bad ending so I should get that next play session and potentially bad end 2, maybe even bad end 3 depending on how upsetting the bad endings are. In a way the game might be short because it requires constant breaks each time something upsetting occurs that can't be avoided as it's part of the main storyline and unaffected by any choices made to that point.
Tuesday I was shocked at how long it took to reach the bad ending after the last selection was made. There is a ton of story and all that story with a few changes carries over when going to do the correct choices as well. I didn't realize there would be a good 5 hours of things taking place with no decisions to make basically. Anyways Bad End 1 now is done and while it did make me cry it happens in such a similar way to other sad events that occur throughout the story that I was able to make it through the story to new story moving forward toward the next set of options. I didn't make much progress in that direction but I did get started on it at least.
Wednesday it took about 2 and a half more hours to get to the next bad ending. I got Bad End 2 and it definitely wasn't something I expected. I sat around in shock for a while after reading through it. I then decided to take a break since I've been reading so much lately and watched some youtube instead.
Thursday after about a half hour I got the Bad End 3 then loaded back up to resume making progress. The events in this game are just wild sometimes yet somehow I saw it coming this time around. I played a bit longer or read I suppose afterwards making progress towards the True End, Miharu End, Bad End 4, and Unhappy End. True End is up next in order of decision making.
Friday including the time spent making a little progress yesterday it is another 3 hours to reach the True End. The credits music changes for this ending with the others having been kind of sad sounding this one is a different full song this time that is in Japanese so I can only guess it probably is related to the story the other song isn't as full of words or as loud. The reveals and events that take place in this ending were something I never could have guessed so just based on the game so far with 3 endings left still I do recommend playing it. This is a shorter visual novel since I've put only 15 and a half hours in so far and almost done completing it already but well worth playing / reading through.
Saturday I continued going for the last 3 endings. It seems the sad low volume song is only on the Bad Ends since Unhappy End and Miharu End have the same song on the credits as True End did. The names of the endings by the way I've been using the names put in the guide I used to get all the endings since the actual ending names given in the game would be a bit of a spoiler on what happens in the game. The main thing I got going away having completed it is first there is nothing for completing the game so I recommend skipping the bad endings and second the names of the endings confuse me. I checked multiple guides call them those names so I can only question why the Unhappy end is called that because to me I feel that is the best ending. The Miharu Ending feels unhappy to me but it also feels necessary since in the game it is called the name of the game Fatal Twelve and it makes sense but I won't share more to avoid spoilers. The True Ending made sense at least since it is the ending that shares the truth about everything going on. Overall the game took just over 17 hours for me to complete it, keep in mind I read a lot so others will take longer. I feel it is worth experiencing but I wouldn't want to own it since I just don't see me replaying this game personally. The endings all read through and experienced once was good enough for me. I do feel it is well worth playing though and reading the 3 main endings. The credits are the same each ending so only one photo to share.
I then spent some time starting up Panzer Dragoon Remake on Switch and played about halfway through it before stopping because my hand was cramping up from rapidly pressing the fire button.
Sunday I finished the Panzer Dragoon Remake game. It is short so I messed around with some optional modes on the main menu afterwards to get more gameplay out of it. The game though short is a fun arcade shooter where you ride a dragon and shoot things. The length is clearly to encourage repeat playthroughs so as to get better at the game and getter a better score. You do get a congratulations screen too for beating it and unlock Secret Mode. The secret code almost made me laugh but it is how to access the extra mode stuff and a gallery of the images shown during the credits at least. The code has to be entered in quickly and correctly to work also. I felt I should share that since it took me a few tries to get it to work. I think it is worth playing this game but maybe not at full price.
There was still time left in the day to play games so I started up the Livestream + Livestream 2 Collection I got on Switch. I thought they were visual novels and while they have visual novel elements, I guess action adventure might be more accurate as you have to explore and solve puzzles primarily to progress. So I started obviously with the first game Livestream Escape from Hotel Izanami and early on the game establishes that a bloody mascot pig with a machete will randomly pop up and chase you. You know he's coming by the sounds he makes and the fact your phone light will briefly flicker when he pops up. The way to make him go away (assuming it's a him I don't really know for sure) is to hide somewhere until he's gone. I was a bit concerned and scared of his popping up at first then quickly was getting annoyed because he was wasting my time dying was sometimes faster than running back and forth. I then realized if the machete is down you can run through him. The story itself and the first puzzle of sorts were scary though. I accidentally didn't grab all the items and died in the first puzzle woops lol. Anyways I did most of the second floor exploration during this play session.
The free digital games this week on Epic Games are actually pretty good there is Limbo, which is a platformer puzzle game I guess it's hard to put into words but I do know I haven't yet got to playing it on anything so this might incentivize me to actually play it finally, and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, which is a full game based around the DLC of Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep where she is the dungeon master and you do the missions she comes up with to save the Butt Stallion this one has more of a focus on stopping the Dragon Lord rather than saving the queen Butt Stallion but still is pretty similar you roll dice to try to get better gears or different classes to play as then shoot the enemies until you win and I plan to play it eventually since I like the concept of it. I wasn't interested at all in any of the free games on Amazon Prime Gaming this week.
