Monday I of course resumed playing Livestream Escape from Hotel Izanami since I know the game is short and I want to try to get most of the endings if not all of them during the day. Since the gameplay is rather simple I mainly am enjoying the game for the story parts that feel like a visual novel but it is an action-adventure since you do have to search for these items. I walked past the same item a few times before I finally found it. The game probably would be scary to others since that annoying mascot keeps popping up at the worst times making the game music change and me have to run to hide somewhere. At some point I no longer am scared by him popping up anymore just annoyed at him like I just want to grab the thing and go but no you're in the way. I've seen the game over screen more than I care to admit... Anyways I forgot to get a screenshot of the credits when I got the ending because I messed up and missed an item and got a bad ending that led to me loading and going after something stupid to get the good ending. The item is off screen and can only be found by happening to notice a small icon telling you that you can interact with it. Whatever I found another way to avoid the mascot if it isn't by chance chasing you in the direction you need to go anyways, which happened a few times hilariously, if you hear a small noise from it or notice the light flicker turn the light off and stand still for a few seconds the mascot will disappear. However if you have spotted the mascot though it will give chase until you hide or it kills you. Because of the stupid item and time wasted backtracking while walking around and avoiding that mascot the game took me around 6 hours total to finish. I didn't get the exact time like with the screenshot because I was annoyed and mad about the stupid item. There are optional bad endings to get but it doesn't appear doing so unlocks anything special the extras menu option just seems to be to look at stuff from in game with nothing indicating a completion bonus so I just looked up the bad endings on youtube and watched them instead of dealing with trying to hide from that mascot more just for a few bad endings. Overall the game is short but it's fine since the physical copy I have comes with the second game. I think that is better than buying it digitally since just from a glance it appears that the second game is longer and has a more interesting situation of avoiding the mascot with a chance of the girls going crazy if caught instead of getting a game over. Oh and one last bit of info don't try to turn the televisions on it just makes the mascot show up after a short video though it is a good jump scare.
Tuesday I started up Livestream 2 Escape from Togaezuka Happy Place which is a haunted mall apparently this time around. The introduction of the mascot was way scarier this time which I love. I also am a fan of having a run button granted it's still slow but it's better than the meandering walk they do. Instead of just hiding there are one use traps to use as well which is interesting but helpful since it seems there are no special easy trick your way out of the mascot chasing you like in the first game. The fact there is a reference to the good ending from the first game in the livestream menu is hilarious and helps break the tension since the game opens up with things happening way faster than the first game did. It seems there are some blue herbs in various locations in case I screw up that allow resetting the girl's mental status so to speak which is necessary for the good ending. I might be nuts but the mascot seems faster this time around too making me actually feel the horror and tension properly I guess they used what they learned from the first game to make this one way scarier... ugh you can hide in a pig costume and I just would rather risk getting caught than do so that pig just bothers me too much after the first game. While I appreciate the extra story this time around the girls might talk to each other a little too much sometimes and I have to read it to make sure it isn't important for a puzzle. I'm not sure if I like it or am annoyed by the back and forth nature of switching between the girls since they are separated and making small progress each time before switching again.... Something I think isn't fair is how is the mascot moving between floors when the girls can't. Okay the mascot can appear in your hiding place and make you run again so beware that... Took a break after that happened because it both made me jump and made me mad that the mascot did so.
Wednesday I resumed playing the game I know I'm getting close to where I need to save to go between different endings since the good endings requires extra steps to achieve it. There are more videos becoming available on the in game livestream app thing that give some background on the girls as well. The puzzles are definitely harder in this game but at least the answers so far can be found easily enough with some searching. Avoiding getting caught ended up not being too bad but without a guide I wouldn't have figured out what to do to get the good ending by all means. I managed to finish the game I did do a few easy to get bad endings along the way too so that I had less to look up and watch on youtube afterwards. Overall I feel it was better than the first game but has references that make it best to play both games meaning my collection cartridge for the Switch is ideal for playing the games. I can recommend this as a good game if you want something scary to play that you haven't heard of before but definitely use a guide to find all the items and solve the puzzles. Only way to game over is getting caught by the mascot 3 times as the same girl without using a blue herb to restore sanity before it happens.
Thursday I decided that since my Switch 2 is arriving I would wait to play another game until it arrived and I downloaded one of my two options. My other games require waiting for them to ship from Canada retailers with one already on the way and the other not quite shipped yet guess the physical is shipping on the 17th apparently. I can wait so that I have a physical copy of it and play other games meanwhile. After all Switch 2 has Gamecube games through the Nintendo online service. Updating and downloading my new games took a while so I didn't really start a game officially I mainly just checked out the system and my new Gamecube controller for the Switch 2. I had to set my dad's Switch 2 up as well so it took all day before everything was done being updated and downloaded.
Friday I decided to start up Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster on the Switch 2. There are mini games on the main menu which is fun. They update and have more things unlocked by playing more of the main game. The mini games use the new mouse function on the joy-con 2 which is pretty easy to pick up on doing. I then started up the actual game. I like how the cutscene is done with there being intricate camera controls for what used to be an AR card to watch on the 3DS. The open exploration is fun and since nothing is stopping me from my habit of being an over-leveler I spend some time just beating up goblins, giant bats and slimes for experience. Plus I do want to work on maxing out the job abilities as well just to have them as an option should I want to use them. The starting ability that lets me examine an enemy for its weakness is pretty handy already. I went ahead and did all the available tutorial quests to get the free items attached to them as well. I'm not sure if I'll do all the achievements yet since some of them require specific things in battle like everyone jumping at the same time which I don't exactly understand yet what that means so I guess I'll see whenever I learn about it whatever it is. I'm just happy to be playing one of my favorite genres the turn based rpg so I'm having fun even if it is just me pointlessly grinding levels that I don't need.
Saturday I continued playing and met up with the second party member so I spent a little time leveling her up before moving forward by running in circles by the save man. I'm glad I did since her defense is weaker than the first character due to not having any equipment yet. The special fights are easy enough to breeze through afterwards as there is some storyline that plays out with the bad people pursuing the girl. I made sure to read the optional little talk scenes too between each cutscene. Since there a giant hole in the ground the only option is to head back to town and talk to the king again. I'm loving the music as I travel and the encounter rate is decent too so far.
Sunday I spent time reading some books instead of gaming. I read a few chapters of Blood, Sweat, and Pixels which is a really good book so far with great detail in it. I then read most of Code the Classics Volume 1 with only 3 pages left to read that I plan to finish up Monday morning. It goes over how specific games were made and has coding to make some games based on those in it as well. I didn't do any coding myself but I did read all the information in the book liking how in depth everything is.
Free digital titles this week starts with PSPlus games of the month and a few new catalogue titles. The added catalogue is Another Crab's Treasure and Skull and Bones. I know the pirate game is like a multiplayer online thing that I'm not really interested in. The crab game though I don't know what it is other than I've seen it mentioned a few times and didn't look into it but I don't know it might be interesting. The artwork shown on the digital page looks nice. Okay for the monthly titles there is Destiny 2 the Final Shape, I tried the first game in the series and wasn't really into it so whatever, Alone in the Dark, I haven't seen any reviews on it yet so I don't know if it's good like the originals or bad like the weird 360 titles so I might play it eventually, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, I've seen it mentioned as a good game but I don't know what I will think about it eventually I'll probably try it out, and NBA 2K25, it's basketball I doubt I play it. Epic Games Store had Deathloop, a shooter with an interesting story too bad I'm not really interested in shooters I might play one day just because I like the concept, and Ogu and the Secret Forest, never heard of it but the video made me think of The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past with how it played and has puzzles while collecting specific things to be the hero so I might try it some time since I do like that Zelda game and some of the games out there based on it. Amazon Prime Gaming had two games I'd never heard of one was a point and click while the other says it's a tactical RPG but the screenshots make me think action adventure so I don't know regardless nothing really of interest.
Okay pre-ordered digital titles came to me via digital code for Switch 2 with Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD, an rpg I never finished on 3DS but this one has more stuff in it so might as well play this version, and Kunitsu-Gami Path of the Goddess, which umm I think is an action game? I honestly forget I just know the starting line of Switch 2 games didn't have a ton that interested me and this one looked fun. I had of course pre-ordered the bundle Switch 2 so it came with the digital download of Mario Kart World, obviously a Mario themed racing game based on advertisements it has an open world and all kinds of new features not in previous titles so I'm actually looking forward to playing possibly as the cow even lol.
