Monday I continued playing Tevi. One of the first things I came across was a cactus enemy that has muscles so that was interesting... This game really does go back forth from being cutesy to being dark so randomly that it's hard to follow sometimes. I appreciate it though since it is refreshing to see silly cute nonsense after some of the darker scenarios and areas. In case it's not clear I don't mean dark like dark colors I mean like disturbing or desolate situations. For example in the first town you go to, that has the shop you can visit, there are some issues with getting supplies delivered so everyone is suffering which you can learn by talking to NPCs otherwise it just looks like a sandy town with a lot of patrol robots. Reaching Chapter 2 has the discovery of what happened with the missing patrol bots at least and now we get to track them down kind of. Really we're supposed to find the culprit that put stuff on the robots to make them wander off.
Tuesday I of course made more progress. The place Tevi wanted to go is blocked for whatever reason that makes no sense so off to collect more gears I guess. There is a new town though with another shop with new inventory and someone that was battled back in the first town is now a shop with some blueprints to be able to make more things. I like the concept of crafting items though it does make me wonder if I won't end up grinding at some point. I'm hoping since I'm playing on the easiest setting it won't be necessary and I can just kind of do whatever instead. I did learn that there is a leveling system of some sort the level seems to go up depending on how much is explored and for defeating bosses or at least that is what the game says. So far the only reason for it seems to be some optional thing since I've seen this creepy clown guy in two spots telling me to come back at a higher level. Anyways I made my way through some stupid forest mist maze and did a water level which let's be honest no game has an enjoyable water level. There are better more tolerable ones but none are enjoyable. The water of course led to the beach where I was trying to go for a gear apparently. Far as I can tell it's just a bunch of aimless wandering about through unnecessary long platform filled stages between each location I need to go to. At least I'm enjoying the storyline even if it is a bit confusing when it isn't just being disturbed. I am very intrigued to see what happens next. Plus sometimes the storyline is enjoyable like a scene in the forest maze where a character encourages another to be themselves because it makes them more lovely to be true to themselves. Granted the rest of the conversation was nonsense that part was nice.
Wednesday I reached chapter 3 by finally going to the shop and talking to the lady inside now I'm done with the other tasks. It seems it's time to go find out how to resist decay in order to make actual progress so to another village to find out how they can handle being near decay. A strange voyage through slightly decay filled plants later and now I have a new movement option along with the way to access the area full of decay. Going back there takes longer than I like since the closest teleport is a bit of a distance out. I make my way through the place full of decay and it has references in it to the past before the decay and destruction all occurred. The end of it is a boss fight that reveals who has been messing with all the peace keeping robots and it's a shocker to find out. That ends the chapter starting up 4 with the decision to go to Tartarus on foot.
Thursday I decided to first go see what the icon in town is about since it wasn't mentioned as a mission option and thus I am curious what it is. It's the waffle restaurant they finally have waffles. With that out of the way time to find my way through the paths to Tartarus. There is a fun little mini game to play that I complete since it's only 6 rounds long and involves just hitting bunny creatures with a hammer. My hand did get a little numb from hitting the same button so many times like when I did that mini game for the Super Mario RPG game but I easily completed this one at least. With that silliness done it's time to go to Valhalla and first impression is the archangel is up to something and is very sneaky which is odd and the opposite of what I expected from visiting the two places. Now I have to find a way to access some secret cloister place because Tevi's friend may be affected by this secret nonsense somehow. Honestly I think it is just the same disease that is everywhere else and the angel guy is hiding it because he's full of himself.
Friday I was pretty accurate in not trusting that guy. A boss fight against him leads to the start of chapter 5 Now the goal is to try and rescue Tevi's friend so a trip back to Tartarus. Luckily I have a teleport I can use. To find our friend we must traverse the catacombs where these little robot enemies are unfair and keep hitting me so I can't hit them. The only enemy so far that has actually annoyed me. So there is a secret lab under the catacombs in Tartarus that I had to explore and now there is some rare flower that needs found that grew in a place now full of decay. Time to go visit some long gone town and explore it apparently. Some of Tevi's past gets shared while exploring it and looking for some special magic box that should have the flower in it preserved perfectly. Finding that flower requires a boss fight of course then the chapter somehow still isn't over. I feel like they are getting longer. Anyways we try to find Tevi's dad and get teleported back to the palace but in a new area of it. Storyline and another boss fight later it's time to go the path we didn't take to Tartarus on food through the magma caverns which burn as we walk around. Thankfully while trying to find my way through I did pick up an item that lets me take less damage. I'm guessing it can be upgraded later to help even more. I made sure and grabbed a teleport shortcut out of there in case I have to go back at some point. The chapter finally ends with meeting up with Tevi's dad and starts the new chapter up with the peacekeepers wanting us to stop in. While doing all these long treks through nowhere-ville I stumbled across 3 separate optional quests that gave me rewards for doing them with 2 giving me potions that upgraded all stats and one that gave me a bunch of materials for upgrading stuff and zennies that I needed. Some of the stores notified me of restocks as well so I need to go visit all the stores now I have zennies to buy with so I can try to get all the potions I can before I fight another tough boss. I barely damage them sometimes and I'm not really sure why since my weapon is upgraded and I have found several optional potions for attack so I guess the bosses just have high defenses. The last two fights having airborne bosses didn't help though since you can't keep combos going past a certain limit in the air before having to land and jump back up again even with all the air combo sigils equipped. I've not really talked about the sigils but they are basically equipable badges that make you fight better far as I can tell. Some are not fighting related but item related though most are about combat. I occasionally check out optimizing the ones equipped especially this chapter since I was struggling a little against the bosses to defeat them. They weren't hurting me any since I apparently have great defense but I was barely hurting them too which was rather frustrating.
Saturday I started up chapter 6's first mission of going to the peacekeeper headquarters to talk to their leader lady. The important business is they believe they have found the missing empress which is great if they did since she can remove decay or something like that. Bad news is it's back to the catacombs that I don't like full of skeleton enemies that pop up everywhere while I get lost trying to find the right path through. A bunch of pathfinding and a portal later and not too surprising the leader of Tartarus had the empress stuck in something that was siphoning her magic. I don't know if she can remove decay anymore with her magic gone but for now it's more important to at least free her. Back at the peacekeeper headquarters it's discussed that apparently some other person from the past that is missing needs to be found and stopped since it turns out they are working with the leader of Tartarus to use the magic they were stealing to destroy everything. Not really sure why they are wanting this other than to be evil but okay. The best way to track them down is to go to Valhalla and trek through the enchanted forest area to locate the Seraph to have her help. Tevi of course is reluctant to do so since we learned a while back that the Valhalla leaders are kind of selfish murderous assholes but their murders are small scale in comparison so time to ask for assistance. I don't trust her either I'm with Tevi on this one but through more areas we go with another portal to have to activate of course. Well I was right about her not helping but it doesn't seem the Seraph is in on the evil going on at least or I hope that's the case since she is going to go have an argument with Vassago I guess? I'm not really sure I just know that ended the chapter with us being locked up briefly for fighting her.
Sunday I started up chapter 7 with the only tip that was obtained that the villain might be in Snowveil so time to go through the ocean to the winter mountain as much sense as that makes. So it had been a while and I totally forgot about the Golden Hands turns out they know the way around Snowveil. We enter some illusion world and fight ourselves because why not. Then the bad guy wasn't the bad guy and the empress wasn't the empress because story reasons. Some wild reveals and clues at a reveal later it seems we found the real empress this time and start the next chapter rushing back to try and protect our dad. I don't exactly have the best feeling about what will happen next...
Digitally I purchased 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim on the Switch EShop while it was on sale. I've been wanting to play it so I went ahead and bought it so I can try to do so this year. I also got Shadows of Adam on sale on the Switch Eshop. It's an indie JRPG so I wanted to get it. I grabbed Ara Fell on sale on PSN on sale also an indie JRPG. Finally not on sale but I wanted it I got YS VI Ark of Napishtim on Steam to play on computer hopefully this year. As for free stuff there is Mortal Shell on the Epic Games Store which I eventually will play I remember thinking it looked cool. Via the Amazon Prime Gaming was a code for Dark Deity the complete edition through GOG which I might play sometime soon if I can. I remember seeing it and being curious about the game but it's been a while so I forget what interested me about it. The other title available the same way Syberia the World Before might be cool but I need to play the first two titles which I believe I have on Nintendo Eshop before I play it.
