So it if isn't obvious from last week but I'm focusing on beating one game at a time so of course Monday I continued playing the Super Mario RPG remake on the Switch. I took a while running around aimlessly not understanding where to go in Land's End then a while longer to figure out how to fight Belome to move on. Once I did manage all that I went ahead and did all the dojo fights getting the accessory belt item. I did try the Culex fight that is a Final Fantasy reference and promptly lost so I might try at a higher level later on but for now I'm going to go to the cliff and move forward after the stars. I have to say the who Land's End area from the start through the desert to reaching Monstro city is probably my least favorite area in the game. I don't like how it's arranged and found it very confusing to make my way through.
Tuesday I went ahead and ran around to find the hidden flags for the guys that appear when you sleep in the empty bed in Monstro so I could get their badge thing since it's really helpful to have. I also figured out talk to the thwomp a bunch makes the key fall so I took that to the Belome temple and went to the special area to use it and got those frog coins and such. Finally moving on I went to the cliff that was unscalable before and made my way up now that the koopas are there. I saw it was timed when I hit the top so I redid it until I jumped fast enough to get something rather helpful that is some kind of badge as well. Satisfied with that I moved on to the beanstalk place and checked out all the pipes to find any hidden stuffs until I got through there to the next area with jumping across stalks and clouds which is my new least favorite area. The depth perception does not exist correctly in my brain so I keep messing up and having to reclimb over and over again. I quickly am frustrated with this area trying to make my way up and grab the stupid frog coins. I can't just ignore them since they are out in the open so I end up frustrated trying to get them. A bunch of stupid jumping later the next town is where Mallow is from which isn't that big of a surprise but it is to Mallow. Moving on we pretend to be a statue and enter the palace which has several rooms to walk around and explore that sometime connect to each other and is kind of like a maze. Honestly I don't mind that it's kind of interesting to run around the palace figuring out which way to go. At the very least there isn't any more vines to jump across so I'm satisfied. Defeating the boss was interesting since the boss's helper takes a party member aside for a side battle which is pretty cool. The boss defeated, mini bosses too, finally the star location is shared it's in a volcano.
Wednesday I made my way through the volcano area which was rather easy. Got to fight the fire dragon and the Axem Rangers which remind me of the Power Rangers. I think they had a different reference originally in Japan though but I forget what it was. I went and cashed in frog coins for entries then beat Culex before riding the cloud bus to go for the last star in Bowser's Keep. The enemies sometimes get confused since Bowser is part of the team even if he isn't out fighting actively which is pretty hilarious. Progress is pretty straight forward but takes a while with all the enemies in the way. I made it to the part where I have to pass so many courses to proceed. There is one platforming one that I'm terrible at and both puzzle ones confuse me beyond so I did the platforming one I could manage and started down one of the battle paths to get an auto-save.
Thursday I managed to get through enough paths finally and moved on. I'm not sure if the magical coin box actually is coins unlimited or not I quit after reaching 100 deciding I didn't really need them so I was moving on. I don't know what the left path had but the right path was just avoiding thwomps and bullet bills to reach a fight with Boomer then the final boss was up. At least I thought so but nope a whole separate world with replicas of past enemies plus a few new unique ones. In fact I beat up a hammer using a hammer it was fun. I think I'm just shy of the final battle for real this time after some mini boss battles along the way. Bowser being ignored by the enemies was hilarious too.
Friday I took on the final boss and beat his two forms. I watched all the final cut scenes and credits and made a clear game save so if I ever decide to go back and complete the game someday by either buying it or renting it from Gamefly again I can. I somehow missed 4 hidden treasures and it beats me where they are. Same goes for the enemies I didn't come across I have no clue how to spawn them. Regardless I liked the game overall and will give it a full review in my youtube video I do either end of this month or early next month.
The free drops didn't interest me this week but I finally remembered to grab, thanks to a notification from the PS App, my PSPlus monthly titles and the Pac-Man World Re-Pac looks really interesting so I plan to try to get to it at some point maybe not this year but perhaps next year.
I went and traded in games I had more than one copy across different systems of to a used game store and bought some games with all the trade in credit I got this week. I got a good amount of credit so I was able to get a new game and 3 used games plus a plushie that I'll show off the end of the month / early next month in my youtube haul and gaming review video. The plushies is of Hatsune Miku so I'm considering it game related enough for the video to share it.
I started up Genso Manege (pretend the e has a mark over it I don't feel like copy pasting the letter from the computer character map) Friday since I finished the Mario game. It is unlike other visual novels there are mini games along the route to play. They can be skipped but I had fun since it used the Switch's touch screen and is rather fun. Since the game developers recommend it I'm starting with Hugo's route. I made it about halfway into chapter 2 for his route before saving for the day. So far the story is very interesting and has many things I look forward to learning the truth about from the past that has been forgotten, which seems to happen in way too many visual novels, to the deal with the rabbit guy staying in his suit all the time, to why one of them can leave but chooses to stay. So many questions and no answers yet.
Saturday I got to near the end of Chapter 4 which is the chapter that officially started Hugo's route. More things to question have came up with the mechanic clearly seeing and knowing magic but hating it for a mysterious reason. At least he isn't interfering so I guess all is well in the end there. I finally got to see some CG today as I played with the first happening almost right away when I resumed where I saved in Chapter 2. I noticed something though as I played the screen fade out and in is slower than necessary and starting to get on my nerves watching the way it plays out. I'm playing the game via a digital download so there shouldn't be any slow load times at all. Another thing that bothers me is most visual novels have a song when you load the game before you hit the main menu if you don't press anything but not this one you only get the song and video one time during the in game progression.
Sunday it snowed so I spent half the day dealing with snow and ice then decided to just work on legos and not bother gaming taking a day off.
