Tales of Kenzera ZAU Day 1 Reminds me of Persia Lost Crown

No idea what this game is outside being free with my PSPlus subscription, so I decided to play it since it came out this year. The brief downloaded game description screen says something about a dance of the shaman and reclaiming my character's father's spirit. I've heard the term Shaman used before but don't fully know what it is outside they control spirits far as I can understand so I guess our in-game dad must have died and we want him to rest in peace or something like that. I could be totally wrong too so time to hit play and find out what the game has to say I suppose.

So, the game says the Shaman path is that of healing and guidance then goes to say our abilities lie in use of masks apparently. Our goal is to use our special mask powers to bring 3 entities or whatever to Kalunga, the god of death in exchange for our Baba which I guess means father. Failure means our own death though oh and all this is taking place in a book it seems since Zau is the character being controlled at this point. The game starts with controlling Zuberi who just lost his Baba, and the book was wrote by said Baba who knew he would be dying soon having illness.

Our masks are of Sun and Moon. Each has its own set of abilities for fighting or healing for example. It seems we can gain Shaman points later on to unlock more abilities. There is also a map in the menu to get an idea of where I've been and where I'm going. The movement and menus so far remind me a lot of Prince of Persia the Lost Crown which is fine by me since I did beat that game after all. I did choose the easiest setting for this game's difficulty anyways though since I remember struggling in a few fights on the prince game because of a lack of setting options for difficulty in battles. Based on the menu too it seems the game is in 4 acts so I'm going to try to get one act done per play session if I can. Really it depends on how difficult the puzzles and platforming get. There are some optional collectables for the codex to learn more about the world too that I will attempt to find as I explore.

There are equip-able trinkets to find that require some difficult platforming but are rewarding for the effort put in. Like the prince game it seems they can only be equipped at certain locations though. There are also fast travel rest points with cute little creatures maintaining a campfire of a sort. As I explore more it is clear there are purple walls blocking some collectable echoes (this game's version of extra information) that there must be a future ability tied to access behind them. I have got one ability so far though that lets me freeze water to jump on it as I explore making it possible to climb back up after a scripted event. I understand backtracking is a thing in these types of games, but it still bothers me I want to just get the stuff especially when I can see it right there in front of me like nooo don't gate me off like that.

As I progressed for the first spirit and met the little girl, I've become concerned as to just what might happen. A new spear throwing move though is definitely a bonus, sadly still can't open the purple doors. I'm thinking it might be some late game thing to make me have to do tons of backtracking just for some echoes.
