Winter's Wish Spirits of Edo Day 8 Review

First up here is a link to my playlist of the let's play complete playthrough of the game with all endings.

If I was to rank the routes, I feel Suzuno is best with Tomonari then Ohtaro, Kinji, Kunitaka, Yoichi, then Genjuro last. These are just my personal feelings with there be some obvious reasoning with stuff like Tomonari always being a good support for Suzuno so obviously best pairing. I feel Ohtaro next since she really digs deep to become her own person in his route and to tell him how it is going so far as to hit him when necessary to snap him out of his stupidity. While Kinji teases her a lot their relationship is sweet, and he really does care for her going so far as to go into the red-light district to protect her knowing full well he can't stand being there for various reasons. As much as I like Kunitaka Tojo he is more of a big brother character most of the time but the way his affection ending and even sorrow ending show them it's clear they would be a good couple I just feel poor Tojo (as it is constantly said in game) is more just a side character. Yoichi might be my favorite character but with Suzuno I feel at some points their relationship will be difficult for her since he unintentionally embarrasses and troubles her with his actions. The reason I say Genjuro last is because they are too similar since both of them are all about saving and caring for others often forgetting about themselves. Generally speaking, it is best to have a partner that isn't the same as you personality wise.

If I was to rank who I liked the best it would be Yoichi, Kunitaka, Tomonari, Kinji, Genjuro and then Ohtaro. I don't have a lot of real reasons behind these reasons these are purely just how I felt about the characters. I cried the most on Yoichi's sorrow ending and really loved his character even in the routes where he isn't the main focus I find his way about things enjoyable to read. I really wanted more with Kunitaka but the temple school is still pretty cute and sweet for him. I feel bad that Komame still doesn't like him too. His sorrow ending, I almost cried as much on as I did Yoichi's. I like how sweet and caring Tomonari is, and he always seems to say the right things even in Ohtaro's sorrow ending his advice to Suzuno is wise. As much as I enjoy his pairing with Suzuno and even was a little flustered by his steamy scenes I just wasn't personally attracted to him. Kinji made me want to slap him for most of his route but the big turn around with his obvious concern for Suzuno and then the way he acts in Ohtaro's route made it clear Kinji likes to tease Suzuno but from the beginning he does actually like her and think she's cute in a genuine way. I wish more of his softer side was able to be shown so I didn't have desires to slap him, but it is enough for me to like his character for what he is. Just I can't overlook my desire to slap him not being able to be fulfilled. Then Genjuro is last because I felt nothing for him at all the whole time, I was kind of bored... I mean Kuga is good looking and I did kind of feel for him being so confused about emotions. I just didn't feel at all interested the whole time outside of well Suzuno explain it again for the boy so we can move on and maybe see something interesting.

Now for the overall thoughts on the game... um well I like how Tomonari's route explains most of the game opening and really does offer a great option for who Suzuno should be with. I appreciate that Ohtaro's route goes in depth to explain everything else that was left out since no one is able to know. I also can appreciate how you find out who is behind the main problems in the game or the cause of the blightfall. The various ways the blightfall shows up and causes issues in each route is great to keep you guessing since it is always different even with how the characters are paired in groups of two by area to have their first 3 chapters being mostly the same with what I'll call a small boss to prepare you for what is to come. I'm not crazy about some of the times there is violent and gruesome descriptions, while rare and few and far between those moments really threw me off for a little bit. I kind of wish there was more steamy scenes since there is only a few with Tomonari's route with one being tied to his sorrow ending and another to a bad ending um 3, I think? The bad is small enough that I really do love this game and recommend it. Don't forget that completing it does have a reward with the main menu screen which generally I wouldn't be all that amused with but this time it is so tied to the story that I loved it. Also, the extras area has little cute things that unlock about each character once you get their endings. I can easily see me occasionally replaying bit and pieces of what I liked in the future for happy fun times~
Oh, and really quick I do recommend playing in the order I played in it makes perfect sense to do so. That is Kunitaka, Genjuro, Yoichi, Kinji, then because that is how it unlocks at this point Tomonari [he requires all 4 affection endings] then Ohtaro [requires all 5 affection endings]. The first 4 can be played in any order I just feel that is the best order and the guides I had used to research the correct choices recommended that order too. Kunitaka is so sweet it eases you into the game, Genjuro though very vessel like is the most willing to discuss things with Suzuno in a way that is understandable, Yoichi knows some information that gives a hint at behind the scenes things and causes a few problems along with a little teasing but is generally pretty nice in his own way that even Suzuno notices it, and Kinji's route is a bit dark with the brothels being involved but he starts being nicer towards the more concerning moments but definitely a last choice route so you can prepare for how dark visual novels can get.
