After spending a fair amount of time just playing the same songs over and over again to see how high a score, I could get for medals I finally am ready to open 2 treasure chests unless the points get spent on each chest... Time to find out! So I can use the points over and over to open chests. The first was a new character unlock and the second was another game garage music option which is pretty cool.
Once I got done messing around in the extra songs area, I explored a bit and found there is a multiplayer competitive area. It has multiple options and based on the info on a board even if the players are different skill levels the game is designed to notice that and make it fair somehow. I'm playing alone so onward with the regular game I go.
The further I go the more there is involved to do on each track outside playing the music. There are multiple room involved tracks where the music changes between room too. They are pretty fun but after a bit it can get confusing to be able to figure out what you need to do as it gets more complicated. I even get a little confused on the trading of items outside of the stages too. I eventually figure it out by trial and error then progress is made again.
It does seem a certain number of stars are needed occasionally to make progress past a specific character that insists on you having a required number of stars. Personally, I recommend mastering the earlier stages that are less complex. I officially found a stage I can't do 3 stars on since the stage spins while you play, and I end up getting a headache. I tried the non-spinning version, but it might be harder? I'm not sure but decided I wanted to move on after spending a half hour with it just to get 2 stars.
Proceeding further did reveal there is at least 23 levels or stages whichever you want to call them. It also revealed more treasure chests. One holds the item to free the cat in the main lobby which made me happy to find. It's a new character so that is pretty cool and I changed to it because I like the kitty.
The further I go the more I wish I had someone to play with to make it easier. It is achievable on solo and I even looked up and watched a walkthrough to reassure myself it is possible because the hot pepper boss is soooo difficult. Way too many retries later, and I have done it finally. I think I finally can put my finger on what this game reminds me of. I'll share with the review I make tomorrow. Tonight's goal beating this game.
